Electric pickups are already being converted into campers

A team of outdoor enthusiasts and engineering nerds, CAMP365 has released the first Model T pop-up camper for electric vehicle bodies, including the Rivian R1T, Tesla Cybertruck, Ford F-150 Lightning and more.

After launching the self-proclaimed “world's first pop-up cab camper” in 2018, the team took on a bigger challenge: electric pickup trucks. The Model T is designed specifically to fit campervans into their bodies with little impact on range.

Weighing 300-350 kg, the lightweight and aerodynamic camper practically does not increase resistance to oncoming air flows. The developers claim that the design of the camper takes away approximately 5-10% of the power reserve.

In the body of an electric vehicle, the superstructure measures approximately 1.2 x 2.1 m. When unfolded, the camper unit expands to a size of 2.7 x 2.1 m with an internal space of 5.6 sq.. m. This is enough to create a sleeping bag for 4-5 people.

“This new model not only features a modular design that makes it one of the most spacious campers in the category, but gives electric vehicle owners the ability to explore and travel with limited loss of range from their vehicle,” said CAMP365 CEO Kevin McGregor.

Model T can be called all-season thanks to two-layer insulating walls with an air gap. Sleeping options include a comfortable queen-size rollaway bed, double bed or bunk bed.

The kit also includes a 90 liter water tank, two side awnings, and racks for two electric bicycles/four bicycles/two kayaks of your choice.

The price tag has been announced: a camper for EV pickups will cost $25,000.
