The new MG electric hypercar will accelerate to more than 400 km per hour

The concept car has an ultra-low drag coefficient of just 0.181 and accelerates to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds.. The maximum speed is not specified, but to beat the previous record it must be above 410 km/h.

As the 2024 China Auto Show kicks off later this week, we'll be treated to a variety of concept cars that are turning heads.

MG is preparing to show off the EXE181 concept, an electric hypercar with a single-seat design, in Beijing.. The impressive electric car looks like one of those Vision Gran Turismo cars.

The teardrop shape contributes to an extremely low drag coefficient of only 0.181, better than the Volkswagen XL1 (0.199) and any other production car. But some concepts were better. The 2022 Mercedes Vision EQXX Concept had a Cd of only 0.18, the 2000 General Motors Precept had a drag coefficient of 0.16, and we can't forget the 1954 Fiat Turbina with an extremely low 0.14.

Regardless, the new MG EXE181 is the modern equivalent of the 1959 concept of the same name.. Previously, a UFO-shaped car allegedly had an even lower Cd of 0.12. The British brand, owned by China's SAIC Motor, says it is not only one of the most aerodynamic cars, but also one of the fastest.. It needs just 1.9 seconds to reach the first hundred.

Lucid Air Sapphire recently did it in 1.77 seconds. Last year Rimac Nevera took 1.74 seconds to complete this exercise. Elon Musk promises that the new Tesla Roadster can go from zero to 60 mph in less than a second, but we honestly find it hard to believe.

As for the top speed, MG doesn't say, but does mention that the EXE181 “exceeds the land speed record”. The original concept from the late 1950s was able to reach 410 km/h with American racer Phil Hill at the wheel.

The extremely tight interior, with its centrally positioned seat and racing harnesses, is equally futuristic but reminds us of the single-seat Lamborghini Egoista. While MG isn't talking about other specifications, we can safely assume all-wheel drive and a total output of over 1,000 horsepower.
