In Dagestan, 16 cases of electricity theft were identified in 2023

PJSC Rosseti Northern Caucasus reports that at the end of 2023, the total volume of unaccounted electricity consumption by miners in the North Caucasus amounted to more than 22.5 million kWh.

According to the North Caucasus branch of Dagenergo, the anti-rating of unauthorized connection to power grids for illegal cryptocurrency mining is headed by the Republic of Dagestan. During 2023, employees of the energy company identified 16 cases of non-contractual and unaccounted electricity consumption worth more than 66 million rubles.

In addition, employees of Rosseti Northern Caucasus PJSC recorded two cases of theft of electricity for the production of digital assets worth 6.3 million rubles in the Stavropol region and one for 6.6 million rubles in Kabardino-Balkaria.

In total, over the past year, Rosseti Northern Caucasus, together with law enforcement agencies, stopped 19 cases of unaccounted electricity consumption by underground crypto farms. The amount of damage caused by “black” miners to the power grid complex of the macroregion in monetary terms amounted to more than 79 million rubles.

In early February, Dagestan police from the Kizilyurt Ministry of Internal Affairs, together with local energy workers, carried out an operation to identify underground mining farms, during which a farm with 378 devices was discovered in the city of Kizilyurt.
