Norilsk woman lost 5 million rubles on investments in cryptocurrencies

A resident of Norilsk lost 5 million rubles — she trusted a friend who offered to invest in cryptocurrency, but in the end she appropriated the funds for herself.

According to law enforcement agencies of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a 53-year-old resident of Norilsk, working in a gas production company, had been friends with the manager of one of the large banks for several years.

A bank employee, who has access to information about the victim’s financial savings, offered her friend to make money by investing in cryptocurrency. She promised the citizen a reliable income of 22,000 rubles a week.

As a result, the victim invested 6.7 million rubles, while in the period from October 2022 to May 2023 she was actually paid income, the amount of which amounted to 1.4 million rubles.

In the spring of 2023, a resident of Norilsk decided to withdraw the main amount of funds, but a friend persuaded her to wait until September. After this, the bank employee, citing illness, stopped communicating.

The victim contacted the bank and it turned out that the funds went to a fraudulent cryptocurrency exchange, and she was not the only one who became a victim of scammers.
