Reuters: Billionaire Peter Thiel began investing in cryptocurrency

The investment company Founders Fund, starting from the second half of 2023, has invested more than $200 million in Bitcoin and Ethereum. Several sources close to the fund reported this to Reuters.

The owner of the company, Peter Thiel, did not advertise the operations. Founders Fund refused to give any comments.

Peter Thiel is a respected and experienced technology investor and a well-known Bitcoin advocate.. A businessman’s opinion carries weight in the institutional investment market, Reuters experts say. As one of the first investors to pay attention to cryptocurrency assets, Founders Fund began aggressively buying Bitcoin in 2014. Peter Thiel's investment company then successfully sold off its BTC holdings – before the cryptocurrency market crashed in 2022. Estimated profit of Founders Fund was about $1.8 billion.

Reuters experts believe that the confirmed fact of Peter Thiel's new large crypto investments in digital assets could be a significant event, as it gives a signal to participants in the traditional investment market about the potential of cryptocurrencies.

In addition to direct asset investments, Founders Fund actively supports the growth of the crypto ecosystem by participating in funding rounds for digital technology startups. The fund invested about $14 million in the Dynamic Labs blockchain authentication platform.

The day before, co-founder of the investment company Mechanism Capital Andrew Kang said that a significant part of the world's excess wealth and income could be redirected into digital assets.
