BYD today officially presented the YangWang U9 hypercar, the traction battery capacity, range and other parameters have been declassified. But the most important thing is that the price is named, and it may surprise. If BYD previously characterized the YangWang U9 as a hypercar for a million yuan (about 140 thousand. dollars), then in reality the cost went far beyond this mark: it amounted to 1.68 million yuan or 236 thousand. dollars! This makes the BYD YangWang U9 one of the most expensive Chinese cars in history.
The second ambiguous point is related to the mass. Yes, the YangWang U9 has excellent dynamic characteristics (the car accelerates to 100 km/h in 2.36 s, the hypercar covers a quarter mile in 9.78 s, and the top speed is 309.19 km/h), but the curb weight is 2475 kg ! Of this, the traction battery accounts for 633 kg.
This is not just a heavy car, but a very heavy one. For comparison, the weight of the track Pagani Huayra R with a 6.0-liter V12 engine producing 850 hp. is 1050 kg. Therefore, the specific power of the Huayra R is higher: 0.8 hp. per 1 kg of mass versus 0.52 hp. per 1 kg of weight for YangWang U9. True, the dynamics of the YangWang U9 are better, but mainly due to the operating features of the electric motors, which produce maximum torque immediately.
Finally, the power reserve attracts attention. YangWang U9 has a traction battery with a capacity of only 80 kWh, and it provides a range of 465 km. However, it is calculated using the CLTC method, which poorly correlates with normal operation. So in reality the power reserve will be much less.
According to BYD, the YangWang U9 laps the Shanghai race track, which previously hosted the Formula 1 Grand Prix, in 2 minutes 17 seconds and 65 milliseconds. For comparison, the BMW M5 F90 completes a lap around the track in 2 minutes and 23 seconds.. At the same time, the BMW M5 is, although a powerful 625-horsepower, still a large sedan.
Dimensions of YangWang U9 are 4966 x 2029 x 1295 mm, wheelbase – 2900 mm. The feature of the model can be called the proprietary active suspension Disus X. Due to the actuators, each wheel can be raised by 5 cm every second. Therefore, the car can “dance” (judging by the video on the Internet, American “lowriders” do this much more cheerfully) or simply drive on three wheels. The so-called tank turn is also supported.
There is no lidar in the BYD YangWang U9, but the car has a number of driver assistance systems, including a parking assistant and adaptive cruise control. The interior is designed simply and even minimalistically: there are three screens on the front panel, but with their huge frames they look like tablet screens from 10 years ago.
It is unknown when deliveries of BYD YangWang U9 will start: the Carnewschina resource believes that it will be approximately in the middle of this year. Pre-orders are accepted starting today, but you will have to pay a deposit of 300 thousand yuan (42 thousand dollars), and the deposit is non-refundable! Finally, it is worth noting that the warranty for this car will be 6 years or 150 thousand km.
