Barcelona legend on Bellingham: He didn't deserve the Golden Boy award

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham recently won the 2023 Golden Boy award, given to the best young player of the year.

However, the legendary Barcelona forward Hristo Stoichkov does not agree with this voting result.

“No, he didn't deserve it.. I don't dispute the value of an Englishman. He is one of the strongest talents in the world: he has high class and great intelligence,” Sport quotes the Bulgarian.

“For me he is a mixture of Laudrup, Kaka and prime Pogba. The future is his. He will compete with Mbappe and Haaland for the next Ballon d'Or, but I would like to know what he won in 2023 with Borussia and Real Madrid? Nothing”.

Stoichkov decided to remind how the Bundesliga season 2022/23 ended.

“He's been playing well for three months.. And what success did all his goals bring to Real Madrid? You know well what my friend Mourinho would say about “titles”. Should we talk about how the last Bundesliga season ended?

“Borussia Dortmund were two points ahead of Bayern 90 minutes before the championship final. They played at home against Mainz and the Bavarians played away in Cologne. What happened 5 minutes before the end? Tuchel brought on Musiala, who in the last minutes brought them a 3:2 victory, while Borussia played 2:2 at home and said goodbye to the title.”

“Since Gavi, the previous winner, was not eligible to compete, I would give the prize to Musiala or (Alejandro) Balda.”

It is worth noting that Jude Bellingham did not take part in the last round of the Bundesliga. Due to the injury, he spent the entire match on the bench.
