The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina commented on her victory in the first round of the tournament in Dubai over her compatriot Angelina Kalinina.
– Congratulations, Elina! A very high-quality performance, you were able to improve your level on important points. Tell us how pleased you are with today's victory.
– It was a tough match. I'm glad to be back on the court, glad to be playing again. It's wonderful here. I really enjoy playing at the tournament in Dubai. I won two titles here, so it's a special memory for me, a special court. I am very happy that I won today in two sets.
– This is your first match with the Australian Open. Tell us how you prepared.
– After Melbourne, I took a break for several weeks to recover from a back injury. Now I am slowly returning, gradually becoming stronger. That's why I'm happy that I won this match and that I felt good on the court. It’s just nice when you don’t have any injuries (smiles).
– And, perhaps, it is impossible to imagine a better place to return than this tournament, where you won twice. What a pleasure it is to perform in this stadium, in front of these spectators, in this city?
– Indeed, this is a wonderful stadium. Every year we are greeted better and better. Sometimes I come here just to relax, so I know the city well. You really enjoy your stay here.
– Tatyana Maria, another mother on the WTA tour, became your opponent in the next round. You haven't played against each other for a long time. What are your thoughts about the upcoming match?
– I have known Tatyana for a very long time. I know her playing style, which is quite unique. Now it is important for me to regain my strength, this is my priority. And tomorrow will be a new day and I hope that I will be ready to play.
