FIDE allowed chess players from Russia and Belarus to compete under the organization’s flag

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has allowed Russians and Belarusians to compete in 2025. Athletes will perform under the flag of the organization.

“Russian and Belarusian players who currently compete under the FIDE flag will be given permission to extend their performances under the FIDE flag until January 1, 2025,” the organization said.

“FIDE has confirmed the waiver of transfer fees for all Ukrainian players transferring during 2023-2024.

The decision is expected to ease the transition process for Ukrainian players who intend to change federations during this period. This only applies to FIDE transfer commissions. The meeting used by the national federation remains,” FIDE said in a statement.
