Ukrainian Vladislav Bukhov became the world swimming champion for the first time in his career. In Doha, Qatar, he won the 50-meter freestyle competition.

Until now, Bukhov has twice stopped at the world championships in the semi-finals, but in Doha, in the sum of two heats, only the current world champion and three-time Olympic medalist, Australian Cameron Makevoy, was ahead of the Ukrainian.

Vladislav also lost to Makeva in qualifying – he became the second of more than a hundred participants in the qualifying stage. His result in the semi-finals updated the Ukrainian national record, which had belonged to Andrei Govorov since the 2016 Olympics.

In the final, the main fight for gold was between Makevoy and Bukhov – the Ukrainian was 0.01 seconds ahead of the current champion and received his debut medal at this level.

Briton Benjamin Proud closed the top three. At the finish line, the 2022 world champion lost to the Ukrainian by 0.09 seconds.
