Steam, a service for multiplayer games and player communication, attracted more than 33.5 million users for the second time in a year, setting a new historical record.

On Sunday, January 7, the number of Steam users reached 33,675,229. Thus, the record set in March 2023 was broken, when, according to Steam DB, 33,598,502 users were attracted.

In March 2020, when quarantine restrictions were introduced everywhere, the number of Steam users exceeded 20 million and never fell below this mark.. The 30 million user mark was crossed for the first time in October 2022. A record number of concurrent users was recorded in December 2023. Then almost 10.5 million people played simultaneously.

Over the past year, the most popular among players were Hogwarts Legacy in the Harry Potter universe, the shooter Counter-Strike 2, which replaced CS:GO, and the award-winning role-playing game Baldur's Gate 3, based on the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing system, an action RPG in the style of cyberpunk Cyberpunk 2077 ( updates and DLC), indie survival horror game Sons of the Forest and first-person shooter The Finals, released in early December.

As NV Techno wrote, at the beginning of January, Steam determined the best games in 11 categories of the Steam Awards 2023. Users decided to reward the failed game Starfield and the Russian project Atomic Heart.
