TikTok is primarily known as a platform for sharing short vertical videos, but that continues to change. The platform started recommending users to shoot long videos in horizontal format.
Several creators of TikTok videos have published screenshots of messages sent to them by the social network, The Verge has noted. The message included a proposal to publish a video longer than 1 minute, shot in landscape (horizontal) orientation.
“Post videos longer than 1 minute in landscape orientation to get more views. The number of increased views can vary depending on many factors, such as the quality of the video and the number of subscribers. Videos in landscape orientation that are wider than tall and longer than 1 minute are the only videos that can get more views. …Eligible videos will receive more views within 72 hours of posting,” the message reads.
TikTok has not officially announced the transition to horizontal videos and has not commented on the changes reported by users. This is not the first time that TikTok has encouraged the publication of content on the platform similar to videos for YouTube. For example, the paid access program Series was previously introduced, which allows content creators to upload videos of up to 20 minutes, which will be available only to paid subscribers.
In addition, TikTok has been steadily increasing the length of videos, approaching the multi-hour limits offered by YouTube. The day before, NV Techno wrote that TikTok started testing a new limit – users were given the opportunity to upload videos up to 30 minutes long
