Audio streaming service Apple Music is testing a new feature that will allow users to import songs and playlists from competing platforms like Spotify. It is currently only available to a limited number of beta users of the Android app.

The link to this feature was first discovered by a Reddit user.

In the image he posted, you can see that the Apple Music app for Android offers “Add saved music and playlists created on other music services to your Apple Music library”. This option also appears in the settings of the Android app.

As MacRumors found out, the development is carried out together with SongShift – a popular third-party service for transferring music and playlists between different platforms.

Currently, the feature is not fully functional, and not all beta users can see requests. This suggests an early stage of A/B testing, where two random groups are shown different versions of the program and then analyzed for their effectiveness.

Third-party music transfer services have been around for several years, but many have limited features without additional payment or subscription. There are no guarantees yet that Apple Music will fully integrate with SongShift, but if it does, the feature will most likely appear in the Apple Music app for Apple devices.

This year, for the first time, Apple will allow installing applications on the iPhone bypassing the App Store, but only in the European Union. The changes will appear in iOS 17.4 in March.
