The chronology of the saga is not defined, but the action of the new part takes place 45 years after the collapse of society – somewhere between the third and fourth films. The cast and plot details of the new part of the saga were kept secret.

Furiosa was filmed in New South Wales. Filming wrapped in September 2022. The film was supposed to be the biggest film ever made in Australia. In December 2020, it became known that the premiere of the film is scheduled for June 23, 2023. However, its release was later postponed to May 24, 2024.

The Mad Max series of post-apocalyptic action films, created by Australian director and screenwriter George Miller and producer Byron Kennedy, began with a low-budget film in 1979 starring Mel Gibson, which was a huge success.

The saga tells the story of Max Rockatansky, a former police officer who survives in a post-apocalyptic world where violence reigns.. There are currently four films in the series: Mad Max ( 1979), Mad Max 2: Battle on the Highway ( 1981), Mad Max 3: Beyond Thunderdome ( 1985) and Mad Max: Wrath Road ( 2015). The latter received six Oscar awards in 2016.

Miller directed or co-directed all four films. The role of Max in the first three films was played by Mel Gibson, in the last film Tom Hardy appeared instead of him.
