Insomniac Games Data Leak ( owned by Sony) revealed that the studio has an exclusive license for most of the X-Men games.
The files stolen and released by hackers included details of licensing agreements between Sony and Marvel. The stolen documents say that Insomniac Games will have a full license to work on X-Men games until December 31, 2035. In addition, at this time, Marvel will not be able to announce any new X-Men games for consoles, Windows PCs or cloud gaming services, writes Windows Central.
This means that not only Wolverine's Wolverine game planned for 2025, which was also leaked, will be released exclusively on PlayStation 5, but likely the next two planned games as well. In addition, these games will not appear on Xbox after their release on PS5.
As NV Techno wrote, Insomniac Games, the PlayStation studio responsible for games such as the Marvel's Spider-Man series, recently suffered from a hacker attack. Attackers received more than 1.7 TB of studio files. They demanded $2 million and threatened to publish the file. Not receiving the ransom, they leaked the data to the Internet.
The stolen files contain personal documents of employees, as well as Insomniac Games plans for future games, corporate strategy, studio financial information and the like.
In particular, financial documents leaked online showed that the game Sunset Overdrive, developed by Insomniac Games, brought the company only $567 in profit.
