A class action lawsuit has been filed against Sony PlayStation due to “ unfair prices” in the digital store of the gaming platform. The company tried to reject it, but to no avail..
Last August, it became known that a class action lawsuit had been filed against Sony PlayStation, in which the company was accused of “ robbed millions” of its customers by setting unreasonably high prices in its digital store. Sony attempted to overturn the class action, but a UK tribunal rejected the attempt.
The lawsuit's representative, Alex Neill, claims that gamers who are PlayStation customers in the United Kingdom overpaid £5 billion over six years due to inflated prices. ( US$6.2 billion). Supposedly thanks The “ near-monopoly” company could charge up to 30% commission on every purchase.
“Sony took advantage of the loyalty of Playstation gamers and overcharged them for years.. It is significant that the court found Sony obliged to explain its actions. … Through our actions, we aim to put an end to this illegal behavior and ensure that customers are compensated,” Neill said in a statement, as quoted by Insider Gaming.
The class action included anyone who lived in the UK from August 2016 to August 2022 and purchased software and other goods through the PlayStation digital store.
