Two new electric cars from BYD were presented at the Beijing Auto Show: Ocean-M and Denza Z9 GT. The hatchback has similar dimensions to a Volkswagen Golf, while the Z9 GT is the new flagship electric sedan from the premium sub-brand owned by BYD and Mercedes-Benz.
The new BYD Ocean-M is larger in size than the brand's existing Seagull and Dolphin hatchbacks and has a profile similar to the Volkswagen Golf.
During the model's unveiling, the automaker said the electric vehicle will have a starting price of $20,700 and go on sale in the third quarter of this year.
The hatchback will use the latest generation C2B batteries. Technical characteristics have not yet been disclosed, but it is known that the model will have rear-wheel drive. BYD is positioning the future model as a competitor to the Audi RS3 and Golf GTI.
At the same time, the Denza Z9 GT is a competitor to premium sedans from Porsche and BMW. The sedan is 5180mm long, 1990mm wide and 1500mm high, making it roughly the same size as the Porsche Panamera GTS.
The peculiarity of the new product is that it uses the new platform for electric vehicles BYD 3.0. The sedan was equipped with three electric motors with a total power of 1000 hp, which allows the Z9 GT to reach the first hundred in less than 3 seconds. The model should go on sale before the end of the year.
