True, it only executes commands in Chinese.
The M-Hero SUV, or Mengshi, which roughly translates to “fierce warrior,” was shown last year, but it was only in April 2023 that it received permission from the Chinese authorities for production. And recently, Dongfeng 917 also received a real drone as additional equipment, which costs $14,000. It can be controlled by voice from inside the car.
There is one more feature that is worth mentioning: the “fierce warrior” has a rear steering system switch, which gives the SUV the ability to move in a so-called crab motion, that is, not straight, but diagonally.
Experts note that outwardly the 917 looks as if it was cut with a kitchen knife – the body does not have a single smooth bend. The matte black finish and sturdy bumper make it look like a military vehicle.
The SUV body is fixed to the frame. In the Chinese market, the M-Hero has two powertrain options. There is an all-electric version with four electric motors and a powerful 140 kilowatt-hour NMC battery. There is all-wheel drive with a total potential of 800 kW/1088 hp. The power reserve is designed for a range of 505 km.
The car can also be a range extender hybrid, using a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine as a generator.. It powers a 66 kWh battery pack and three electric motors with a system output of 816 horsepower.. This is enough to accelerate to hundreds in six seconds.
These are all amazing numbers, but they're nothing compared to the 917's standard and optional equipment.. For starters, the car has interior door handles that resemble a Desert Eagle pistol.
Two levers on the center console are similar to airplane throttles and control the car's transmission and driving modes.
The instrument panel has three screens – a digital instrument cluster, a navigation screen and a passenger infotainment screen. Well, we already talked about the drone. The only thing we don’t know is why we need to launch it – perhaps to see traffic jams many kilometers ahead of us.
