Suzuki Jimny and Swift will not appear under the Toyota brand

It's no longer a secret that Toyota and Suzuki share models and platforms in certain markets to the benefit of both brands.. This strengthened the presence of both companies in the market.

The RAV4 is known to be sold as the Suzuki Across on the Old Continent, and several other products have been rebadged on both sides. However, some of the most famous models will not share.

Toyota's desire to introduce its own versions of the Suzuki Jimny and Swift has hit a roadblock. While the companies have collaborated smoothly on other models, here Suzuki has expressed reluctance to share these two models. The reason for this ban has been stated: both versions have a part in the company's DNA, so there could be a risk of weakening their iconic status if they are marked with Toyota symbols.

“It's like asking Toyota to let us design a Land Cruiser badge. The models that are the core of our brand are not meant to be shared and both companies must respect that,” Suzuki said.

The media has received information from sources at Suzuki, where they do not hide that Toyota has expressed great interest in the Jimny model, presenting it as a more affordable 4×4 alternative to its larger and more expensive crossovers and SUVs.

Even though recent sales of the Jimny have fallen after an initial surge, Suzuki remains firm in its decision not to share the model with Toyota just to increase volume.

Swift was also found to be banned from collaborating. Despite Toyota's interest in acquiring the hatchback, Suzuki stands its ground: the models are inseparable from the brand's identity and cannot be distributed.
