VEON welcomes former US Secretary of State to the Kyivstar Board of Directors

Amsterdam, November 14, 2023 – VEON Ltd. ( NASDAQ: VEON, Euronext Amsterdam: VEON), a global digital communications operator providing converged communications and online services, announces that former US Secretary of State Mike R. Pompeo will join the Board of Directors of Kyivstar, VEON's Ukrainian subsidiary, as an independent non-executive director.

Secretary Pompeo joins as a partner at Impact Investments, a newly formed US-based strategic and financial advisory and investment firm that seeks to develop long-term partnerships with the world's leading companies across a variety of industries and geographies.

In addition, VEON Group CEO Kaan Terzioglu has been appointed head of the Kyivstar Board of Directors.

These changes to the Kyivstar Board of Directors are a reflection of VEON's dedication to Ukraine, the revival and restoration of the country. As previously announced, VEON will invest $600 million in Ukraine over the next three years and initiate the launch of a « Invest in Ukraine NOW» ( “Invest in Ukraine NOW”), inviting other international companies to take part in rebuilding Ukraine. Having committed to providing services in Ukraine, VEON withdrew from Russia, announcing the completion of the transaction on October 9, 2023.

Secretary Pompeo served as the 70th United States Secretary of State from 2018 to 2021 and the sixth Director of the Central Intelligence Agency from 2017 to 2018. Secretary Pompeo also represented Kansas in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2011 to 2017 and was CEO of Thayer Aerospace from 1996 to 2006. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and received a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
