WhatsApp is working on a feature to create a username for channels. It is expected that it will be available in the next program update.

Back in May, it became known that WhatsApp was testing tools for creating usernames in the messenger. But since then there have been no updates on this matter.

Now the function is at the development stage, so it is not available even for participants in beta testing of application updates, writes WABetaInfo. Unlike the recent Signal update, this is not about usernames for individual users, but about names for WhatsApp channels.

It is expected that after the update, users will be able to easily copy links to channels into which names chosen by administrators will be integrated – the same way it works in Telegram. Then users will no longer have to share cumbersome channel links, which should make them easier to find. And authors will have the opportunity to make their channels more recognizable using unique names.

Insiders say signs that WhatsApp is working on this update are contained in the latest Android version available to beta testers ( 2.23.24.17). Additionally, WhatsApp is expected to soon replace the green channel confirmation icon with a blue one.

NV Techno previously wrote that WhatsApp launched channels similar to channels in Telegram. Channels in this messenger, like in Telegram, work in one-way mode: administrators can send text, photos, videos, stickers and polls to many people at once.
