Technologies that will allow you to have the Internet for up to 72 hours without electricity

The Ministry of Digital Transformation has prepared tips on how to stay connected to the Internet for up to 72 hours in the event of power outages.

The authorities have repeatedly warned Ukrainians that due to Russia's shelling of Ukraine's energy infrastructure, blackouts are possible again. Until it happened. However, with the onset of winter, a new problem may appear – due to the decrease in temperature, electricity consumption increases significantly. That is why blackouts may begin in Ukraine. The Ministry of Digital Transformation has prepared tips on how to stay connected to the Internet for up to 72 hours in the event of power outages.

In particular, the director of the Energy Research Center Oleksandr Kharchenko warned that if frosts come to Ukraine, fan shutdowns cannot be avoided.

There are a lot of calculations. There are many different scenarios of how events can develop. But at an average daily temperature somewhere around -8-10°C, unfortunately, you will have to use the graphs. And Ukrainians should be ready for this,” Oleksandr Kharchenko told the Kyiv TV channel.

What technologies to use during blackouts

The Ministry of Digital Transformation found out from providers the most effective ways to help ensure the Internet during outages. They will suit Ukrainians with different types of Internet at home and will allow you to stay connected from 4 to 72 hours.

In particular, the department talked about four main technologies.

The first one is It provides fiber optic cable to the apartment. This will allow 52.5% of users to have Internet for up to 72 hours in the event of power outages. The second technology involves the laying of optical fiber in an apartment building. In this case, 52.5% of users will remain on the network for 4-8 hours, and in some cases even up to 72 hours. The third technology – – offers connection through a television cable. Like the previous one, it guarantees an Internet connection for 4-8 hours, in some cases up to 72 hours. The last one, the fourth one, involves connecting to the network via a telephone copper cable, for example, Ukrtelecom. In this way, 71.4% of users will have access to the network for 4-8 hours.
