A rather unusual accident was recorded last weekend on one of the capital’s highways: a low-speed tractor and a trolleybus did not share the road.
A traffic accident occurred on Saturday, February 24, in the Solomensky district of Kyiv. A JCB 3CX wheeled backhoe loader was driving along Fyodor Ernst Street. He did not bother anyone and did not touch anyone.
A trolleybus with an interesting inventory number 3377 was also traveling in the same direction behind a construction vehicle. His driver did not intend to violate traffic rules or interfere with anyone.
True, at some point the routes of both vehicles crossed. Who is to blame there, who initiated the collision – it will become clear. But from the three photographs it is clearly visible that the domestic trolleybus lost dry in the road with a British excavator.
It is likely that the 12-meter “Bogdan T70117”, the cabin of which can accommodate 105 passengers, was badly damaged and will not be on line soon. Its front and left side on the driver's side received significant damage.
Dents on body elements and the windshield indicate an inertial collision with an obstacle in the form of the right outrigger and excavator boom arm. There was almost no collision with the boom and bucket.
Probably, the collision occurred at low speed, since the softer body material of the trolleybus relative to the heavy metal of the excavator linkage would simply get stuck in the passenger compartment opposite the driver's seat of the passenger car. Fortunately, this did not happen.
There is no word on the driver's condition, let's hope for the best. The trolleybus driver apparently ignored the safety distance requirements and “caught a woof”. Although experts do not rule out the possibility that the operator could have accidentally engaged the vehicle in reverse and “slipped back” a little. The tractor could not roll back, since the flat terrain of the road is clearly visible in the photo.
In any case, specialists will sort it out, find out the circumstances of the accident and determine the culprit. Everything is leading to the fact that in conclusion the term “safe distance” will be used quite often.
