US President Joe Biden decided to join Threads, a microblogging service from Meta. Users welcomed him to the platform with widespread accusations of supporting the killings in Palestinian Gaza.
Biden's first post on X's rival platform ( Twitter), refers to his 2020 presidential speech.
“You hear me today from a new platform, but my message for you has not changed. We are now facing a turning point – one of those difficult moments in history when the decisions we make today will shape the decades to come.. But I don't see a dark, bleak, divided future for America. I see America is about to take off. “I will continue to do everything in my power to meet this moment—and keep you updated,” he wrote.

The US President's post on Threads received more than 40 thousand likes and 5 thousand replies. While many comments were positive, a significant number focused on US involvement in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Users of the platform condemned the use of taxpayer money for military operations and demanded that the US stop supporting Israel.
“ Do everything in your power to stop the genocide in Gaza, recognize the freedom of the Palestinian state, Mr. President,” “Cease fire! You should be ashamed of yourself for funding the murder of 14,000 Palestinians. People have the right to call you a mass murderer,” “Please look at the humanity of the Palestinian people and don't let our tax dollars be spent on ethnic cleansing,” the users wrote.
Note that in addition to the personal page of the President ( @potus), the pages of the White House, Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff were also registered. White House spokesman Robin Patterson told Axios that the move is not related to the Biden administration's abandonment of X. “We continue to use X and there are no plans to change that,” he said.
The Verge notes that Biden's addition is a good sign for Meta's platform and reveals its potential to become a news source like Twitter previously was. The platform had fewer regular users than, for example, Facebook, but attracted political leaders and other influential figures.
