OpenAI co-founder and chief scientist Ilya Sutskever warned that the technology his company is creating will change the world, and possibly in a bad way.

“Artificial intelligence is a wonderful thing because artificial intelligence will solve all the problems that we have today. This will solve employment, illness, poverty. But it will also create new problems,” Sutzkever said in a new documentary by The Guardian.

The film was shot between 2016 and 2019, and is about one of the most mysterious figures in the artificial intelligence industry, who is involved in the creation of the well-known ChatGPT.

It is clear that even before his company truly changed the world, the people who developed its artificial intelligence were studying the consequences of their revolution and were already struggling with them.

In this new short film, Sutskever was very optimistic about the potential of artificial general intelligence. The co-founder of OpenAI said that a computer system that can do any job or task that a human can do, but even better.

Although the machine learning expert was optimistic in his predictions for AI, Sutzkever compared unconstrained neural networks to the habitual behavior of people who treat animals poorly not because we hate them, but because it is convenient.

«I think a good analogy would be how people treat animals. It's not that we hate animals. I think people love animals and have great affection for them. But when it comes time to build a highway between two cities, we don't ask the animals for permission.. We just do it because it's important to us.. I think that by default this will be the relationship between us and AIs that are truly autonomous and act on their own behalf,” Sutzkever said.
