Over the past few days, many Google Drive users have noticed files disappearing from their data storage.. Google acknowledged the problem.

Those who encountered the problem noted that account data was suddenly deleted. For example, a spreadsheet might not have data for the past weeks, months or years, but retained data for previous dates, writes 9to5google.

In a short community post, Google officially acknowledged the problem and blamed its source on its own desktop app.

The company does not provide an explanation for the error, but notes that it affects a limited number of Drive for Desktop users running versions 84.0.0.0.0 through 84.0.4.0, which were released recently.

“We are investigating reports of the issue… and will be sending additional updates,” the Google Community post reads.

The company also notes that users should avoid disconnecting their Google account from Drive for Desktop. It is also advised not to delete or move data from the folder DriveFS” on your computers. Additionally, Google recommends creating a copy of this folder if you have enough space on your system.
